2008-09 was a year of tremendous growth for PLAN. We expanded our PLAN to LEAD Training of Trainers program, joined the statewide Campaign for Quality Education, launched three new programs—Parents Ready for School, Parents in Action, and the Peer Mentor Program—and became an independent nonprofit. Monthly Member Meeting

At our January meeting we had a lively discussion (in three languages!) on the current budget crisis and its effects on our schools.  PLAN members (long-standing and newcomers alike) and community members from around the Bay gathered in Oakland to learn about school finance and to identify ways that parents can play a meaningful role in budget decisions.

At this month's meeting PLAN will continue the conversation on how parents can make their voices heard and explore how to build power through community organizing.  Participants will have an opportunity to practice key organizing skills
