Parents Ready for School (PR4S) curriculum—now available online!

PR4S is a six week long training program geared towards parents of younger children to prepare them with the information and skills necessary in aiding their child’s education from the very beginning. The PR4S curriculum is a compilation of all the lesson plans and activity handouts in three languages (English, Spanish, and Chinese) with detailed trainer instructions and helpful hints. The publication of this curriculum was made possible by an Every Child Counts grant funded by First 5 Alameda County. learn more>

Study Shows Parents of Young Children Gain Valuable Skills from PLAN Training

This spring, Quinlan Gaston Huey Associates conducted a focus group study of PLAN’s Parents Ready for School (PR4S) training and found that participants increased their confidence, skills, and knowledge to navigate the school system and advocate for their children. To read the focus group, click here. PR4S was initially made possible by an Every Child Counts grant funded by First 5 Alameda County. The program is also supported by the Trio Foundation, the East Bay Community Foundation, the Rogers Family Foundation, and the Lowell Berry Foundation. Thank you to all these funders! (Look out for a full article on PR4S in the upcoming newsletter)

“This program has helped me a lot. I have learned how to request information about everything to do with my child in school. I have been coming to the office and asking questions so I know about the progress of my children.”

PLAN to LEAD in Action!

PLAN congratulates member organization Chinese for Affirmative Action (CAA) on the graduation of their fourth Visitacion Valley Parents Association parent leadership graduation. Since first participating in the PLAN to LEAD Training of Trainers program in 2005, CAA staff and leaders have been using the curriculum to train other members of the Chinese immigrant community to be effective advocates and organizers in their schools and community.
