If you believe in building a strong voice for parent leaders and advocates throughout the Bay Area, become a member of Bay Area Parent Leadership Action Network (PLAN). As a member of PLAN you will be part of the only regional organization in the Bay Area that brings together diverse parents and organizations in a family-friendly environment to work across issues, language barriers, and county lines.  PLAN provides opportunities to connect with other parents and parent organizations from across the Bay Area who share common goals and struggles, and provides leadership development and training to build the skills and confidence of parents and parent-based organizations to be more effective leaders and advocates in public systems.

Our Mission

The Bay Area Parent Leadership Action Network (PLAN) is a regional network of parent leaders and organizations working to build a social justice movement for families. PLAN unites and strengthens diverse parents and organizations fighting for education equity, economic justice, quality child care, and parent representation through alliance building, leadership development, and action.

Our Core Values:

• A “parent” is anyone who serves as a primary caregiver for a child, including guardians, kin, adoptive, and foster parents.

• Parents are the experts on what children and families need to thrive.

• Parents – especially parents from low-income, immigrant, and communities of color who have been historically disenfranchised – must have a strong voice in the decisions that affect families.

• A parent-led movement that unites us across the boundaries of language, race, culture, and geography will strengthen the parent voice in education and public policy and improve the lives of children and families.

• Have the right to vote for PLAN Leadership Council representatives

• Receive updates on campaigns and opportunities to develop PLAN’s platform and campaigns  

• Build alliances with parents and parent groups throughout the Bay Area

• Develop leadership skills

• Participate in a family-friendly movement (meetings held at times convenient to working parents, with child care, meals, and translation provided)

Additional Benefits for Active Members:  

PLAN recognizes that an active membership is key to building a strong parent movement. We define active members as members who participate in at least two PLAN activities every six months. These activities can include Parent Action Forums, training programs, general membership meetings, or PLAN advocacy activities. In addition to all of the benefits listed above, Active Members are also eligible to:

• Serve on the PLAN Leadership Council, the regional decision-making body for the network)

• Represent PLAN in legislative visits and other advocacy activities

• Serve on Leadership Committees, such as policy committees, endorsement committees, campaign committees, etc.

Individuals: $25.00/year
