Trainings
The Bay Area Parent Leadership Action Network (PLAN) provides
parent leaders and organization staff with leadership
development and capacity-building tools for educational
equity through our PLAN to LEAD
curriculum.
PLAN Currently offers two training programs:
Leadership in Education Training Series
Leadership and Advocacy Skills for Education Equity
is a two-part training for parents/guardians and others
working to support parent leadership in school decision-making.
Drawn from the PLAN to LEAD curriculum and the expertise
of PLAN member organizations, PLAN offers this series in
January and February of each year.
Training of Trainers
In 2005-2006, PLAN launched a pilot PLAN to LEAD Training
of Trainers Program. The goals of the program are to increase
the capacity of Bay Area parent-based organizations to use
leadership training as a tool for parent-led action for
education equity and to make the PLAN
to LEAD curriculum widely available and accessible to
parent-based organizations.
Eleven Bay Area organizations participated in the first
year of the program, which runs September through May. Participants
include: Chinese for Affirmative Action/Center for Asian
American Advocacy, Coleman Advocates for Children and Youth,
Fighting Back Partnership, Hawthorne Family Resource Center,
Oakland Parents Together, Our Family Coalition, Parent Services
Project, Parent Voices – Southern Alameda County, Peninsula
Conflict Resolution Center, Tenderloin Housing Clinic, and
Youth Together/Skyline Family Resource Center.
Participants receive training and support to develop and
implement a customized PLAN to LEAD training to energize
and focus their parent leadership and action on education
issues. In addition, participating organizations develop
training skills and capacity of key staff and leaders
through 20 hours of hands-on instruction and practice
and 9 hours of one-on-one coaching. |
